TLC WAREHOUSE UPDATE!

TLC WAREHOUSE UPDATE!

Thank you to everyone who has already donated to the warehouse fund!  We are so close to our goal.

The Ten Lives Club Warehouse is now almost completed and the cement floor is poured. Unfortunately, we are still short $7000.00 to pay the contractor that built the warehouse.

We are in need of a cement approach to our garage door so we can get a fork truck in and out of the building. The approach we need is 10' feet by 12' feet. If anyone could help us with the last part of the cement approach, please call 716-646-5577!

We have already given our 30 days notice and need to be out by Thursday. Sept 15th. Without the approach, we can't move out of our current warehouse space because of the difference between the warehouse and driveway.

CAN YOU HELP?

PRAYERS FOR JEANNIE

Katherine Street in the First Ward of South Buffalo is particularly a problem area for stray and unwanted cats.  Recently, Ten Lives took in five kittens from a business property on Katherine Street.  There were three more at the time that volunteers were trying to trap. Those three were rescued last week.

Some may not have given this kitten - we named Jeannie - a chance. But at Ten Lives Club, this is what we do.  Although it can be so heartbreaking to see what neglect and abandonment can do to the kitties that come to us for help.

Jeannie was surrendered with severe eye infections in both eyes.  Her eyes had gone untreated for so long it's clear in the picture to the left how severe her infection was when she came to us. One eye is beyond saving and will need to have enucleation (eye removal).

Her foster home has been treating Jeannie with three different eye medicines six times a day.  That's 18 times a day plus antibiotics!  Her foster Mom, Paula, turned this very sick little baby into a perky little kitten who has started to play.

It's amazing how far little Jeannie has come in less than two weeks with medication and tender loving care!

Paula has been with Ten Lives Club for 14 years. She has easily fostered and/or adopted out over 1,000 plus moms and kittens!

Paula is a true cat angel to little Jeannie and all of the kitties that she takes under her loving wings. Ten Lives is so grateful to have Paula and all of our committed foster homes! They give so many cats and kittens such loving care and the chance to find their forever homes.

Jeannie will have the one eye removed when she's bigger as Animal Eye Care could not save that infected eye.
But now, she is out of pain and can see with her other eye.
We still need "Prayers for Jeannie" and thank everyone for the donations and kind words of hope and love for her!
We love our little Jeannie!

Thanks to all who believe and support us in all that we do!

TEN LIVES RESCUES 3 CATS STUFFED IN CRATE & LEFT IN HEAT

On Sunday, July 12 - a day when the TLC shelter is closed to the public - 3 fully grown cats were discovered crammed into one carrier.  They had been left in the heat without food or water. The temperature that day was 90 degrees!
Chase

Whoever was responsible for this cruel act left them sitting next to the TLC dumpster like trash.  Not to mention, in extreme heat with NO WATER which would've been a DEATH SENTENCE if they hadn't been found in time.

Luke (behind) & Jo Jo
Marie noticed the carrier sitting out in the heat and found the 3 cats inside.  They were quickly brought into the shelter & out of the awful heat.  These poor cats had all begun to pant from the extreme heat and one poor baby was so terrified she had peed herself.

They are being processed by our vet staff now. This means being tested, vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms, ear mites and a full physical which will determine their ages. We named them after "The Bachelorette" stars.

Read local news coverage HERE & HERE.

Ten Lives never received a phone call asking us to help with these cats.  We do ask for a surrender donation but we will work with people when they can't donate.  There are MANY ways to help that are just as needed and appreciated such as volunteer work, selling raffle tickets for us, caring for our kitties at our adoption locations, donating items needed on a day to day basis, cleaning at the shelter - SO MANY ways!

DUMPING cats at our shelter is a cruel, cowardly and CRIMINAL thing to do.

If ANYONE has any information about who may have committed this incredibly cruel act, please call our shelter hotline at 716-646-5577.

Thank you to all who support and believe in Ten Lives Club!

ONCE AGAIN TLC STEPS UP TO SAVE CATS IN NEED...

Marie Edwards, President & Founder of Ten Lives Club during interview with TWC News

On Monday, November 30, 55 cats were seized from a West Seneca "rescue" called "Bob the Cat Animal Rescue". Ten Lives Club took in 26 cats one to two weeks prior to this raid by the SPCA, American Humane Association & Niagara County Health Department.

Of the 55 cats rescued, ten were so sick they had to be euthanized (NOT by Ten Lives Club). Dozens more have respiratory infections, ringworm, Feline Leukemia, and FIV.

Ten Lives Club told Time Warner Cable News that Canorrao (the owner of Bob The Cat Rescue) brought in 26 cats in the week and a half before Monday's raid.  PLUS, another 10 in the past six months prior to the raid on Monday.  That means, in TOTAL, Ten Lives Club took in at least 36 CATS from Canorrao's hording situation.

Marie Edwards, 10 Lives Club Founder and President, told Time Warner Cable News "We try to take in 20 to 25 in a week. Fifteen in one day is a lot to process. It's a lot of manpower. A lot of cages to set up."

TLC Shelter Vet, Dr. Sharon Fisk
Small rescue groups like Ten Lives Club do so much more than many people realize when these unfortunate situations happen. Although the spotlight is always on the big rescue organizations (SPCA) that have so many more resources & money. TLC ALWAYS steps in to help however we can. TLC Shelter Vet, Dr. Sharon Fisk shown left.

NOW Ten Lives has 26 MORE to care for, provide medical attention & place in forever homes.

Please consider making a donation towards the care & medical expenses for these poor babies.

They didn't ask to be in this situation!

It costs Ten Lives Club a lot of money to rescue, treat, feed and house over 250 cats and kittens PLUS more kitties that come to TLC in situations such as this.

TEN LIVES CLUB BRICK CAMPAIGN "KICKS-OFF"!

TEN LIVES CLUB BRICK CAMPAIGN "KICKS-OFF"!

The future holds many hopes & visions for Ten Lives Club.  In order to continue our efforts to save and re-home as many kitties as possible while also assisting many other rescue organizations across Western New York, we need to build a warehouse on our shelter property.  The warehouse would store supplies, equipment and pallets of litter and food we receive from all over the country.  It would also serve as a pet food pantry for other rescue groups & compassionate individuals who care for feral colonies and strays.
Planned Warehouse - awaiting actual blueprints & sketch.

Ten Lives Club also plans to move our ringworm facility from South Buffalo to a new state of the art isolation/contagious facility within the warehouse.  Currently, we pay a steep rent to house and treat kitties with ringworm and other highly contagious diseases.  With the addition of the warehouse on property we already own, we would no longer have that additional monthly expense!

The Ten Lives Club shelter in Blasdell sits on 2.8 acres of land. The planned warehouse would be 48' x 81' x 16' built on the back lot of our property. Inside will hold our inventory, the planned isolation center, an inside area concession stand with outside awning for future fundraisers & even three dog runs so TLC can start working with dog rescue groups to show their dogs for adoption.

Back lot on our property where warehouse will be built.
If we raise enough funds we would also like to put a feral enclosure off of this building!

Recently, TLC had a delivery of 41 pallets of cat and dog food.  In order to store this much needed donation as well as many other donations of food, litter and other supplies, we currently pay $1,000 per month to rent a space in the industrial facility next door.  Having a large storage space is a necessity!  Not only to store our own food and supplies but to share with other rescue groups.  Some of the rescue groups we provided food from this donation were: Joyful Rescues, Operation Pets, Feral Cat Focus, City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, Save a Pet, Tabbytown, Best for Pets, Bob’s Rescue, Niagara County SPCA, Almost Home AnimalSanctuary, Empire Rescue, SOS Cat Rescue & Supporting Rescue Alliance - to name a few!

Ten Lives Club also provides food to feral cat colony caretakers and others who have spayed or neutered cats on their barn properties.  With this recent donation, we were able to supply those who feed community cats in Tonawanda Island, Angola, Olcott, South & North Buffalo, Collins, East Concord, Salamanca, West Seneca, the Buffalo Marina, Boston, Colden, Hamburg, Blasdell, Cheektowaga, Lackawanna, Buffalo East Side, Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, Springville& Arcade.

The cats who come into our care depend on Ten Lives Club! Many rescue organizations & compassionate individuals who care for feral colonies and stray cats depend on us as well.  With the addition of our own warehouse facility, Ten Lives Club would save over $2,000 per month in rental costs for storage space and ringworm containment.

Please consider donating a TLC Warehouse Campaign Brick in memory of a beloved pet, family member or friend that will forever be displayed in our new warehouse facility.  Businesses and other community organizations can also proudly display their sponsorship. Groups or families can donate a brick together with each participant proudly engraved!

Each brick is 4" x 8" and includes an engraved message along with an optional picture of a cat, dog, heart or angel ($5 additional).  The cost to donate a TLC Warehouse CampaignBrick is $500. They will be prominently displayed on the East side of the 48' x 81' x 16' warehouse facility.

MAMA CAT & 5 KITTENS FOUND IN DUCT TAPED BOX RESCUED BY TLC!

Mama cat CHELLE & her litter of 5 babies!

On Monday, July 20, Ten Lives Club volunteer Ken Lyon was helping TLC prepare for their upcoming garage sale.  He discovered a cardboard box sitting outside the Ten Lives Club donation bin that was sealed with duct tape. When he heard meowing noises coming from inside the box, he immediately took it inside the shelter.

Ken started removing the duct tape and a cat's head popped up through the opening! Inside was a mama cat and her litter of 5 newborn kittens who had been sealed up tight and abandoned in the hot July heat.  Ken and other Ten Lives Club volunteers and staff were appalled!  Who could do such a thing?  Why didn't they surrender them to the shelter which was only a few yards away?  Instead, they shoved this poor mama cat and her babies into a cardboard box, duct taped it shut so there was no way to escape and left it by boxes of donated items like a piece of trash!  In the middle of JULY!

Dr. Fisk examined them and determined that the kittens were between 7 and 10 days old.  The mama cat and all of her babies were okay.  Thankfully, it appeared that they had been inside the box for about 15 minutes or less.  Had it been much longer on a hot 80 degree July day, the outcome would not have been so good.

WIVB Channel 4 and WGRZ Channel 2 did a wonderful job covering this heartbreaking story.  Both broadcast stations sent reporters to interview Marie Edwards - TLC President & Founder, Ken Lyon and Dr. Fisk the very same day.

Ten Lives is so grateful for the kind donations and compassionate response for these sweet kitties thanks to WIVB and WGRZ! People from not only Western New York, but all over the United States have shown their support!  THANK YOU!

The mama cat - now named "Chelle" - and her 5 babies are being fostered by a seasoned Ten Lives Club volunteer.  Chelle will be available for adoption in a few weeks once her babies are weaned and she has been spayed.  Her babies will be available for adoption around the end of September.

Call 716-646-5577 for more information
about adopting Chelle or her babies!

It will cost approximately $1,000 for Ten Lives Club to treat & prepare these kitties for adoption.
