HELP PETFINDER & TLC FIND FOREVER HOMES FOR PETS IN BUFFALO!
Petfinder has helped facilitate more than 25 million pet adoptions through nearly 13,000 shelter and rescue organizations – one of which is Ten Lives Club.
To celebrate its two decades of helping pets meet their people, Petfinder is asking animal lovers nationwide to watch the #MetOnPetfinder 20th anniversary video with a goal of reaching one million views. The video shows how adoptable pets have transformed the lives of their adopters.
If the one million view goal is reached by Oct. 24, Petfinder will donate $200,000 to the Petfinder Foundation, funding twenty $10,000 grants to select shelter and rescue organizations nationwide, and one of those grants could go to Ten Lives Club!
After you watch the video, we’d love to hear about your Petfinder success stories on social media. Just use the hashtag #MetOnPetfinder and be sure to tag @tenlivesclub in your post.

PETFINDER WORKS WONDERS FOR TLC KITTY
![]() |
Benjamin Stein-d'Lobita and Axel d'Lobita with Winston |
Several years ago before I had moved to Buffalo from Long Island, NY, a neighborhood black cat that had eye problems disappeared during the spring and was never seen again. He had always followed me home as when I walked around, meowing and insisting on endless belly rubs. I always wondered what had happened to him. I sincerely hoped that wherever he was, he was at peace and somewhere he was loved.
My parents had always firmly believed in “don’t shop, adopt” and took in many rescued animals, leading to my passion for rescuing pets. In December 2015, my then-fiancĂ© (now husband) Ben and I had been mulling over the idea of adding a new furry member to our family. We had left a multi-roommate situation where our three-year-old cat Orion was one of six living in a three level house. He no longer had his best friend (a white Siamese mix named Walter) that he had bonded with over a year and a half. Ben and I had also discussed finding a special needs cat that required extra love and attention. We knew whomever we adopted had to be cat-sibling friendly and able to adapt to a small apartment. I began my search on Petfinder.com daily, scrolling through a plethora of adoptable cats while working overnights at a hotel.
A week before Christmas I had discovered Winston's profile. The Ten Lives Club of the Walden Galleria Mall had a posted a short paragraph on his history. He was a rescue from a high kill shelter that lost one eye but still had all the charm in the world and love to share. I printed out his Petfinder listing and came home the following morning and showed it to Ben. Winston’s story and personality called to me and I knew from that moment I wanted to bring him home. I called the shelter to ask if he was still available after returning from a holiday trip. Kristen, the manager from TLC, confirmed he was still at the shelter. I asked Ben his opinion on Winston and he agreed that he would be a good fit for us. Every few days I would check the shelter’s Facebook page to see if Winston was still there, and he was. We had to stand by to prepare our home for a new addition and ensure he would have a smooth transition. Ben and I agreed we would not adopt a new family member until everything was ready.
A month before Valentine’s Day, we made the trip to the mall to meet Winston after weeks of patiently waiting for the right time. An hour and a half ride from downtown by bus, we arrived in the afternoon and requested to have a meet and greet. Kristen noted that if he were to go home with us, he must have a slow introduction to Orion. The second stipulation was that he must take his beloved green coil toy home. After the approval was given we asked if we could return the next day with our friend’s car to pick him up. As of January 15th, 2016 Winston came home with us, coil and all. Orion and Winston met nose to nose through the carrier and behind the bathroom door; Orion seemed unfazed but interested in who this new friend could be. After a few days we allowed them to interact with supervision but barrier-free. Winston became a much-loved part of our small family. His similarities to the long-departed neighborhood cat continued to make me wonder daily if this was him in a new body but the same spirit.
Ben now volunteers at TLC’s Galleria shelter, and we have since adopted our third cat and second special needs baby, a deaf cat named Neil. We thank not only the Ten Lives Club for their dedication to rescuing high risk, special needs, FIV+, and senior cats but also Petfinder.com for helping us connect with them and find Winston.

TEN LIVES CLUB BRICK CAMPAIGN "KICKS-OFF"!
TEN LIVES CLUB BRICK CAMPAIGN "KICKS-OFF"!
The future holds many hopes & visions for Ten Lives Club. In order to continue our efforts to save and re-home as many kitties as possible while also assisting many other rescue organizations across Western New York, we need to build a warehouse on our shelter property. The warehouse would store supplies, equipment and pallets of litter and food we receive from all over the country. It would also serve as a pet food pantry for other rescue groups & compassionate individuals who care for feral colonies and strays.
![]() |
Planned Warehouse - awaiting actual blueprints & sketch. |
Ten Lives Club also plans to move our ringworm facility from South Buffalo to a new state of the art isolation/contagious facility within the warehouse. Currently, we pay a steep rent to house and treat kitties with ringworm and other highly contagious diseases. With the addition of the warehouse on property we already own, we would no longer have that additional monthly expense!
The Ten Lives Club shelter in Blasdell sits on 2.8 acres of land. The planned warehouse would be 48' x 81' x 16' built on the back lot of our property. Inside will hold our inventory, the planned isolation center, an inside area concession stand with outside awning for future fundraisers & even three dog runs so TLC can start working with dog rescue groups to show their dogs for adoption.

Recently, TLC had a delivery of 41 pallets of cat and dog food. In order to store this much needed donation as well as many other donations of food, litter and other supplies, we currently pay $1,000 per month to rent a space in the industrial facility next door. Having a large storage space is a necessity! Not only to store our own food and supplies but to share with other rescue groups. Some of the rescue groups we provided food from this donation were: Joyful Rescues, Operation Pets, Feral Cat Focus, City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, Save a Pet, Tabbytown, Best for Pets, Bob’s Rescue, Niagara County SPCA, Almost Home AnimalSanctuary, Empire Rescue, SOS Cat Rescue & Supporting Rescue Alliance - to name a few!
Ten Lives Club also provides food to feral cat colony caretakers and others who have spayed or neutered cats on their barn properties. With this recent donation, we were able to supply those who feed community cats in Tonawanda Island, Angola, Olcott, South & North Buffalo, Collins, East Concord, Salamanca, West Seneca, the Buffalo Marina, Boston, Colden, Hamburg, Blasdell, Cheektowaga, Lackawanna, Buffalo East Side, Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, Springville& Arcade.
The cats who come into our care depend on Ten Lives Club! Many rescue organizations & compassionate individuals who care for feral colonies and stray cats depend on us as well. With the addition of our own warehouse facility, Ten Lives Club would save over $2,000 per month in rental costs for storage space and ringworm containment.
Please consider donating a TLC Warehouse Campaign Brick in memory of a beloved pet, family member or friend that will forever be displayed in our new warehouse facility. Businesses and other community organizations can also proudly display their sponsorship. Groups or families can donate a brick together with each participant proudly engraved!
Each brick is 4" x 8" and includes an engraved message along with an optional picture of a cat, dog, heart or angel ($5 additional). The cost to donate a TLC Warehouse CampaignBrick is $500. They will be prominently displayed on the East side of the 48' x 81' x 16' warehouse facility.

HAPPY TAILS~ SWEETIE PIE & HONEY BUNCH
Submitted By:
Marianne McPherson
TLC Volunteer Store Coordinator
PetSmart - Cheektowaga & Pet Supplies "Plus" Sheridan Dr.
TLC Adoption Training Coordinator
Sometimes it is very tough on TLC staff and volunteers to see two sweet cats like Sweetie Pie and Honey Bunch being surrendered by their owners. These two beautiful seven-year-old, declawed siblings shared the first seven years of their lives with one family. Now, they were unwanted and homeless.

Any Shelter can be a scary place for animals where there are no familiar faces. Being put in a cage for the first time is even more frightening!

SWEETIE PIE |
After being processed, they were sent to the TLC adoption location at Pet Supplies "Plus" - 3340 Sheridan Dr.
There, they cuddled together in the back of the cage not knowing what was happening to them.

KITTENS FOUND IN DUMPSTER BROUGHT TO TLC!
On Friday, May 15, 2015, Ten Lives Club received an urgent phone call from a local veterinarian we work with regularly. Their clinic took in some newborn kittens and needed our help immediately.
That morning, while emptying a dumpster in South Buffalo, employees from Modern Disposal found two plastic bags with FOUR newborn kittens inside. These poor little babies still had their umbilical chords and the afterbirth was also in one of the bags! The employees saw no sign of the poor Mother cat who had her babies ripped away from her as soon as she gave birth.
Unfortunately, it was already too late for two of the newborns but somehow the other two were hanging on - barely.
Unfortunately, it was already too late for two of the newborns but somehow the other two were hanging on - barely.
Ten Lives Club brought the two surviving newborns to the shelter for immediate medical attention and care. They were literally only HOURS old & needed fluids and round the clock feedings. One of our wonderful foster volunteers stepped in to help.
Despite our best efforts and care, one newborn passed away on Saturday and the other one followed on Monday.

What a cruel and irresponsible way of dealing with an unwanted litter of kittens.
Ten Lives Club is deeply saddened and outraged about this unbelievable act of cruelty against these poor newborn babies and the Mama cat, who's whereabouts are unknown.
These newborn kittens were bagged up & thrown away like pieces of TRASH! Meanwhile, the Mama cat, if she's still alive, will continue to have litter after litter of unwanted kittens...
