TLC RESCUES MAMA CAT SHOT IN NECK!

 
Sweet Darby is just one example of the many cases of cruelty & abuse that come through the doors of Ten Lives Club.

Darby, a female, came into our program with her baby kittens and went to one of our loyal and experienced foster homes. The foster home noticed a bump on her neck.

When Darby was spayed and under sedation, the bump was checked. A .22 bullet was taken out of Darby's neck!  Pictured below left is the .22 bullet removed from Darby's neck during surgery.

Pictured below right is the open wound.  Darby is on pain medication not only for her spay but also the wound which our vet left open to heal.  Once she is finished with her antibiotics to prevent infection, Darby will be available for adoption in about a week.

Poor Darby has been through so much yet even so, she is a sweet little thing and so trusting.

On Monday, July 20, Ten Lives Club volunteer Ken Lyon was helping TLC prepare for their upcoming garage sale.  He discovered a cardboard box sitting outside the Ten Lives Club donation bin that was sealed with duct tape. When he heard meowing noises coming from inside the box, he immediately took it inside the shelter. 

Ken started removing the duct tape and a cat's head popped up through the opening! Inside was a mama cat and her litter of 5 newborn kittens who had been sealed up tight and abandoned in the hot July heat.  Ken and other Ten Lives Club volunteers and staff were appalled!  Who could do such a thing?  Why didn't they surrender them to the shelter which was only a few yards away?  Instead, they shoved this poor mama cat and her babies into a cardboard box, duct taped it shut so there was no way to escape and left it by boxes of donated items like a piece of trash!  In the middle of JULY!

Dr. Fisk examined them and determined that the kittens were between 7 and 10 days old.  The mama cat and all of her babies were okay.  Thankfully, it appeared that they had been inside the box for about 15 minutes or less.  Had it been much longer on a hot 80 degree July day, the outcome would not have been so good.

WIVB Channel 4 and WGRZ Channel 2 did a wonderful job covering this heartbreaking story.  Both broadcast stations sent reporters to interview Marie Edwards - TLC President & Founder, Ken Lyon and Dr. Fisk the very same day.  

Ten Lives is so grateful for the kind donations and compassionate response for these sweet kitties thanks to WIVB and WGRZ! People from not only Western New York, but all over the United States have shown their support!  THANK YOU!

The mama cat - now named "Chelle" - and her 5 babies are being fostered by a seasoned Ten Lives Club volunteer.  Chelle will be available for adoption in a few weeks once her babies are weaned and she has been spayed.  Her babies will be available for adoption around the end of September.

HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY TEN LIVES CLUB!

TLC's 14th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION on Saturday was LOTS of fun!  We had so many people stop in to visit all the kitties & sing a rousing version of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to US!

It's amazing how much we have grown since 2001 when TLC was founded.  

Ten Lives Club originally operated out of TLC Founder & President - Marie Edwards' garage in North Boston, New York!  

In 2004, Ten Lives Club moved to an office in Hamburg - we called it "Global" as in "Global HQ"!  It was eventually named "Jake's Place".  

We continued to grow & needed more space, so we bought a building in Concord in 2007 to run the TLC shelter.  Some of the volunteers & staff at Jake's Place wanted to stay & keep running a shelter at that location so they renamed it "Hope for Cats" & are still in operation.  

In 2010, we had once again grown out of the space at the shelter in Concord.   Ten Lives Club moved to the MaeLou Dr. location in Hamburg in 2010.  

After continuing to grow & expand our community efforts to place homeless cats & kittens for 5 more years, our DREAM CAME TRUE! 

We FINALLY moved into the NEW TEN LIVES CLUB SHELTER located at 3741 Lake Shore Drive in Blasdell, NY!

Ten Lives Club is so very HAPPY to have MORE ROOM in our new shelter!

 

The kitties LOVE roaming around & enjoying the space! 

It makes it possible for Ten Lives Club to save more kitties than ever before!

Ten Lives Club showcases our cats & kittens at satellite adoption locations throughout Buffalo & the surrounding suburbs as well as at our main shelter.

About once or twice a month Ten Lives Club also holds adoption events at various venues such as area malls & other places of business over a weekend where we need qualified volunteers to assist with adoptions during the event.

These events also involve transporting cats & kittens from the main shelter in Blasdell to the event, setting up for the event, tending to the kitties during the event (food, water, play time, etc.), promoting Ten Lives Club, answering questions from potential adopters &/or people who are interested in becoming a volunteer, completing adoption paperwork & handling payments, selling fundraising items & breaking down after the event.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, 2015

No charge to enter your chili for the contest!

1. Chili must be in a crock pot & already heated 30 minutes prior to the the event.  You will need to provide your own ladle!
2. Bring a small sign that includes the name of your chili, a brief description & include the main ingredients! You may also bring copies of your recipe to hand out.
3. Ten Lives Club will provide napkins, silverware & small bowls.
4. Each contestant will be provided an area to heat up your chili + two chairs. Bring a table cloth if you wish! Be decorative & creative - there will be a separate prize for this category!  
5. Once we receive your entry form you will be assigned a number so people can vote at the event.
6. Entrance fee for those wishing to taste-test the chili & vote is $8. Entrance fee includes samples of all the chili in the contest along with breads & crackers.  Desserts will be available for purchase.  More food & cash bar will be available for purchase at the West End restaurant.
7. To sample the chili, note which chili you are judging & refer to the chili by the number assigned to ech chili dish.  
8. Each person judging the chili will be given tickets & the designated categories.  A separate area will be provided for all to put their tickets in for the judging.  
9. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three chilis!  
10. A prize will be awarded to the top voted vegetarian chili.  
11. A prize will be awarded for the contestant with the most creative display/theme (this prize will be for the décor of the table, not the votes for the chili dish).  
12. Everyone who enters their chili will get Prizes/Giveaways!
13. Contest is limited to the first 30 entries!

Submit entries no later than Thursday,  January 22nd.

There is a collection bin in the cat room at the Ten Lives Club Pet Supplies "Plus" E. Amherst adoption location on Transit Rd.  You can also bring them to any Ten Lives Club event or drop them off at our main shelter at 3741 Lake Shore Rd. in Blasdell.

Last month, we recycled 410 pounds of aluminum tabs which generated $230 for Ten Lives Club!  Not only does this program help Ten Lives Club but the environment too!  How amazing is that??

SAVE YOUR DASH'S RECEIPTS!  

Dash's will donate a percentage of the receipt totals back to Ten Lives Club!  

Drop off Dash's receipts in the cat room at our Ten Lives Club at Pet Supplies "Plus" E. Amherst location on Transit Rd.  There is an envelope hanging above the aluminum tab bin or mail directly to the Ten Lives Club shelter at 3741 Lake Shore Rd., Blasdell, NY  14219 - ATTN:  Dash's Receipts.

PRINTER CARTRIDGE & CELL PHONE RECYCLING PROGRAM 

Donate used ink jet & laser cartridges as well as old cell phones to Ten Lives Club. We send them to recycling companies who pay us for our donations.

This is a great way for companies or businesses to participate by holding a donation drive!**We cannot accept Epson cartidges - they are not recyclable.**

Cartridges & cell phone donations can be dropped off at our main shelter at 3741 Lake Shore Rd. in Blasdell or at any Ten Lives Club fundraiser.

Ten Lives Club is accepting donations of clothing, purses, stuffed animals, blankets, pillows & sheets.  NO TOYS OR HOUSEWARES PLEASE!

Drop off donations at Niagara County Landfill & Recycling located on the Route 93 William Gregory Bypass in Lockport between Route 31 (Saunders Settlement Road) & Hinman Road. 

Ask for the location of the Ten Lives Club clothing drop off shed!

 SHOE RECYCLING PROGRAM

We accept donations of men's, women's, & children's USABLE shoes.  They can be dropped off at TLC's main shelter at 3741 Lake Shore Rd. in Blasdell or brought to any TLC fundraising event.

Acceptable shoes include: athletic shoes, dress shoes, timberland style work boots, sandals, heels & flats.

PLEASE NO: ski boots, heavy winter boots, roller skates or roller blades, shoes with holes in the soles or wet/mildewed shoes.

We recently received a check for $104 for our shoe donations!

RECYCLE YOUR CANS & BOTTLES!

Ten Lives Club has partnered with Millersport Recycling located at 803 Millersport Highway in Amherst.

Bring plastic & glass bottles & cans to this location then designate Ten Lives Club as your charity of choice. Ten Lives Club will receive a portion of the recycling proceeds!

Blasdell Recycling on South Park Avenue is another location cans & bottles can be returned.

Just designate Ten Lives Club as your charity of choice!

CASHIN’ IN CARS FOR CATS!

Ten Lives Club has teamed up with Lake Erie Towing at 5173 Southwestern Blvd in Hamburg, NY.  Lake Erie Towing takes donated vehicles to benefit Ten Lives Club.  Cars, trucks, motorcycles, or transportation of any type that no longer run or due to high repair costs are no longer feasible to keep qualify.  Anyone living in Erie County or nearby surrounding counties can donate their unwanted vehicles!

To donate a vehicle, call Ten Lives Club at (716) 646-5577 & leave your name, phone number & type of vehicle. The owner of Lake Erie Towing will facilitate the towing & vehicle transaction.  A vehicle title or a copy of the donating person’s driver’s license will need to be presented.  

Ten Lives Club will receive $300 for each vehicle donated & donors will receive a tax receipt!

Does your workplace, business, church or organization have a place for a "Coins for Cats" collection container?  Every penny collected helps Ten Lives Club care for & find forever homes for our kitties!

Ten Lives Club Rescues Cats & Kittens EVERY DAY - 365 DAYS A YEAR!

On Monday, December 8, 2014 & Tuesday, December 9, 2014, TEN LIVES CLUB took 19 CATS into our program!  12 of them are kittens.  This is a typical week for Ten Lives Club. TLC rescues cats & kittens EVERY DAY - 365 DAYS A YEAR! 

We rely on donations from our dedicated supporters so we can continue to save all of those who come into our care.  Money raised from donations, fundraisers  or merchandise sales is used to pay expenses we incur just to keep our shelter up & running!  We have utility bills & rental payments, medical supplies, medication, equipment/supplies for surgeries & procedures to buy EVERY MONTH. 

We use an enormous amount of cleaning & laundry supplies - as you can imagine!  Our shelter has 4 washers & 4 dryers (electric) that are running almost non-stop!  Our electric bill alone last month was $540!  Our monthly rent is $2,100.  These are just a couple of examples we pay in operating expenses alone.

We need a continual supply of cat food, cat litter & clean bedding.  Ten Lives Club provides medical treatment & care for every cat that comes through our doors.  All cats receive a vet exam, vaccinations, spay/neuter, flea/ear mite treatment & deworming - at the very least.  The vet expenses alone for each cat is $250+!  Multiply that by the 300+ cats that we have in our care at any given time & that's $75,000!  When other medical issues, treatment or additional medications are necessary, the costs go up from there. 

Ten Lives Club takes in cats from other organizations due to overcrowding or because of medical conditions that they cannot or will not treat - such as FIV+ cats who would otherwise be euthanized.  We have to reimburse that shelter for medical treatment provided for each cat we take back to our shelter.
