Volunteers desperately needed!  TLC has 2 brand new cages that are ready to go at Clyde's.  We need volunteers to bring our kitties back to Clyde's!  In the past, TLC averages about 10 adoptions per month at Clyde's.  We need to get this location BACK so more kitties can find their FOREVER HOMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Please consider volunteering before or after work or school.  There are only two cages at this location so cleaning will be minimal!  Can you spare 20 minutes once a week?

HELP PETFINDER & TLC FIND FOREVER HOMES FOR PETS IN BUFFALO!

HELP PETFINDER & TLC FIND FOREVER HOMES FOR PETS IN BUFFALO!

Petfinder has helped facilitate more than 25 million pet adoptions through nearly 13,000 shelter and rescue organizations – one of which is Ten Lives Club.

To celebrate its two decades of helping pets meet their people, Petfinder is asking animal lovers nationwide to watch the #MetOnPetfinder 20th anniversary video with a goal of reaching one million views. The video shows how adoptable pets have transformed the lives of their adopters.

If the one million view goal is reached by Oct. 24, Petfinder will donate $200,000 to the Petfinder Foundation, funding twenty $10,000 grants to select shelter and rescue organizations nationwide, and one of those grants could go to Ten Lives Club!

After you watch the video, we’d love to hear about your Petfinder success stories on social media. Just use the hashtag #MetOnPetfinder and be sure to tag @tenlivesclub in your post.

TLC KITTIES NEED YOU!

TLC KITTIES NEED YOU!

The Ten Lives Club shelter at 3741 Lakeshore Rd. in Blasdell is seeking volunteers! CALL 716-646-5577, EXT. 101

Help care for our kitties until they find their forever homes! It is also a great way to earn community service hours or for youth organization projects.  Please contact Stephanie at stamoolisfam@yahoo.com for community service guidelines.

DUTIES INCLUDE: cleaning cages, scooping/changing litter boxes, sweeping, mopping, laundry, general cleaning/housekeeping and various odd jobs.

DAYS/TIMES:

MONDAY, TUESDAY & THURSDAY TO SATURDAY
ANYTIME BETWEEN 9AM & 5PM

We have been short a vet tech lately and are way behind on processing incoming cats and performing surgeries. TLC had to take a small break in accepting surrenders. We have NO available cage space!  Every cage is full and we even borrowed more cages.

TLC is a free roaming shelter but new cats are kept in cages until seen by our vet. In our infirmary, we also use cages to keep germs from spreading.

This is only the 4th time in our 15+ year history we have had to stop accepting more cats. However, emergency situations arose and we had to help.

We are slowly catching up but please be patient with us.  Every staff member is overwhelmed and very overworked right now.

Ten Lives Club staff is very committed and loyal!  Thank goodness for EACH of them!

Thanks as always for everyone's support!
We could not do any of this without each of you believing in TLC!

KITTENS STUFFED IN BAG - LEFT OUTSIDE TLC SHELTER

Submitted By:  Stephanie Stamoolis
August 19, 2016

It happened again! Working in a shelter is very emotional work. Days are filled with ups and downs. We rejoice when cats we love find amazing forever homes, and then there are days like today when we are filled with a mix of emotions.

Today someone left a duffle bag filled with 5 kittens on our doorstep. They were left when we were not open. Luckily for us one of of workers showed up early and found them.

They were covered in fleas, feces, urine, hungry, dehydrated and crammed in to a very small bag. Everyone here felt sad, frustrated, helpless, overwhelmed, and mad. We understand that people may feel overwhelmed and need help. What we don't understand is why they felt that they could not call us and ask for help, or stop in when we were open so that the kittens did not have to wait for help. We also understand that the people that do these horrible things are the minority. Our community is filled with kind animal loving people who make what we do possible.

Despite the strong emotions, our dedicated staff got to work caring for these kittens. They were given baths, flea medication, deworming medication, vaccinations, and much needed food and water. The kittens ran to the bowls and hurriedly ate and drank as much as they could. We have no idea how long they had been in that bag. It could have been as long as 12 hours. They were in such a small bag that they could not move and were stacked on top of each other. With this hot summer, they are lucky to be alive.

These sweet babies are now safe with us. They will never again have to go through another experience like this again. We will treat their illnesses and begin to teach them that they can trust humans again. We will find them loving forever homes. All of this comes at a cost. We estimate that it will cost us about $900 to help these kittens. We receive no funding from the government and rely solely on donations from the public.

PRAYERS FOR JEANNIE

Katherine Street in the First Ward of South Buffalo is particularly a problem area for stray and unwanted cats.  Recently, Ten Lives took in five kittens from a business property on Katherine Street.  There were three more at the time that volunteers were trying to trap. Those three were rescued last week.

Some may not have given this kitten - we named Jeannie - a chance. But at Ten Lives Club, this is what we do.  Although it can be so heartbreaking to see what neglect and abandonment can do to the kitties that come to us for help.

Jeannie was surrendered with severe eye infections in both eyes.  Her eyes had gone untreated for so long it's clear in the picture to the left how severe her infection was when she came to us. One eye is beyond saving and will need to have enucleation (eye removal).

Her foster home has been treating Jeannie with three different eye medicines six times a day.  That's 18 times a day plus antibiotics!  Her foster Mom, Paula, turned this very sick little baby into a perky little kitten who has started to play.

It's amazing how far little Jeannie has come in less than two weeks with medication and tender loving care!

Paula has been with Ten Lives Club for 14 years. She has easily fostered and/or adopted out over 1,000 plus moms and kittens!

Paula is a true cat angel to little Jeannie and all of the kitties that she takes under her loving wings. Ten Lives is so grateful to have Paula and all of our committed foster homes! They give so many cats and kittens such loving care and the chance to find their forever homes.

Jeannie will have the one eye removed when she's bigger as Animal Eye Care could not save that infected eye.
But now, she is out of pain and can see with her other eye.
We still need "Prayers for Jeannie" and thank everyone for the donations and kind words of hope and love for her!
We love our little Jeannie!

Thanks to all who believe and support us in all that we do!

TEN LIVES CLUB FEATURED ON WKBW AM BUFFALO!

http://www.wkbw.com/am-buffalo/ten-lives-club

Channel 7 WKBW is celebrating November as Rescue a Shelter Animal month.  Linda Pellegrino from WKBW AM Buffalo invited Ten Lives Club to appear on her show Monday, November 2.  We were happy to have the opportunity!

Marie Edwards, President & Founder of Ten Lives Club, and Valerie Underwood, Volunteer Store Coordinator, were interviewed along with 2 cats - "Super" Manny & Calypso.  Valerie was going to hold Calypso but he was being camera shy!  "Super" Manny hammed it up & was a cool cucumber during the entire interview.

This was a wonderful opportunity for Ten Lives Club to spread the word about our organization!  Linda invited us to come back again in December to promote our "Home for the Holidays" adoption campaign on her AM Buffalo show.  We are looking forward to another opportunity to help our kitties forever homes!
